There's a word here that has gone back to being whole.

In Italy, «bar» was coined in 1898 by Alessandro Manaresi, a Tuscan entrepreneur who gave his place the full name: Banco A Ristoro, the counter where you stop for refreshment. At the Renny it's still called that, and it's the shortest way to say that stories from the past aren't decoration here.

The blackboard at the counter — «Futurist polydrinks served here!» — and below it the shelf with the bottles.

At the counter you drink Italian.

The cocktails are built around labels that have a story, from the same era the place is set in, and there's sprayed wine, grape juice and malted barley for those who prefer it.

In the kitchen, the smell of grandma's house.

There's warm bread, the kind she sliced against her chest while the sauce simmered slowly on the stove: simple old flavors that need no explaining, because they're enough to warm your heart. On the menu there are family dishes, recipes born out of love, patience and the art of making a lot with little. Here you eat like at home, but with the pleasure of feeling like a special guest.

A green travel trunk used as a coffee table in front of a leather sofa, with an apothecary bottle and dried flowers on top.
The coffee table is a trunk, the vase is an apothecary bottle.

You don't have to take part in anything to sit down: you can come just for a drink, just to eat, or just to be here.
